The Weatherization Program Virginia
The Weatherization Program is administered though Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD). US DOE and the Virginia Department of Social Services’ Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) provide funds to the program.
The most frequent weatherization services performed in Virginia are weather-stripping and caulking, replacing a high-energy consuming refrigerator with an energy-efficient refrigerator, replacing glass panes/windows, installing insulation, replacing incandescent bulbs with CFL bulbs, repairing/replacing the heating unit and installing detectors for carbon monoxide.
The program provides cost-effective energy efficient upgrades to residents of Virginia that meet established income criteria. The Virginia Weatherization Program helps renters and homeowners of Virginia cut high utility bills, and increase safety and comfort of their homes. Preference in the Virginia Weatherization Program is given to people over 60 years of age, persons with disabilities and families with small children.
