RI Energy Efficiency and Resource Management Council is an Energy Star partner in Rhode Island. Incentives to help homeowners interested in upgrading their homes for energy efficiency are offered by National Grid and Pascoag Utility District. Equipment rebates, improvement loans and free energy audits are included in the incentives.
Weatherization Services in Rhode Island
The WAP program in Rhode Island operates since 1977. The State of Rhode Island promotes energy efficiency to decrease the disproportionate energy burden of low-income families in Rhode Island. Both renters and homeowners are eligible, while housing eligible types include multifamily units, mobile homes, and single-family houses.
There are seven regional Community Action Agencies (CAPs) agencies that provide weatherization services in Rhode Island to residents that meet established income criteria (based on annual household income). The WAP program helps residents of Rhode Island slash high utility bills, increase comfort and safety of their homes in addition to increasing their self-sufficiency and reducing pollution.
The most frequent weatherization services performed in Rhode Island homes are weatherstripping and caulking, installing insulation, replacing incandescent bulbs with CFL bulbs, replacing glass panes/windows, repairing/replacing the heating unit and installing carbon monoxide detectors. Families with children, people over 60 and persons with disabilities are given preference in the WAP Rhode Island program.
